Session 1: Foundation & Support

This page supports your Structural Bodyworks 3-Series.

You do not need to read or do everything here.
Some clients explore immediately. Others return after each session.
There is no right or wrong way to use this page.

This is a reference — not homework.

How to Use This Page

Structural change happens through support, awareness, and time, not force.

  • Explore what feels relevant

  • Revisit sections after each session

  • Notice how your body responds

If something feels unfamiliar or unclear, that’s part of the process.
We’ll continue to guide you in person.

Foundation & Support

Feet • Balance • Pelvis

Session 1 establishes your foundation — how your body meets the ground and organizes upward.

When the foundation is clear, the pelvis, spine, and upper body no longer need to compensate.

Key Concept: The Foot Tripod

This short video visually explains the foot tripod and why it matters for posture and balance.

Your foot has three primary weight-bearing points:

  • base of the big toe

  • base of the little toe

  • center of the heel

Balanced support through these points allows the foot to be both stable and adaptable.

Go Deeper: Foot Tripod & Pelvic Organization

When the three points of the foot share load evenly, force can travel smoothly upward through the legs. This gives the pelvis a reliable base to rest on, allowing it to organize more neutrally in space.

When the tripod collapses — due to injury, footwear, posture, or long-term compensation — the legs often rotate or shift to compensate. Over time, this can alter how the pelvis sits, commonly contributing to:

  • pelvic tilt or rotation

  • hip tension or asymmetry

  • strain in the low back or sacrum

By restoring clear foot-ground connection and balanced lower-limb alignment, the pelvis no longer needs to hold or brace unnecessarily. Movement becomes easier from the ground up.

Explore (If It Resonates)

Some clients like to notice:

  • how the foot gently rolls inward and outward during walking

  • how balance feels when standing barefoot

  • how different shoes affect foot contact

This is about awareness, not correction.

The Body Balanced Kit (Optional Support)

Video on how to use the Body Balanced Kit

After Session 1, some clients choose to use the Body Balanced Kit to reinforce:

  • foot tripod awareness

  • balance and sensory feedback

  • smoother integration between sessions

Ask your therapist if this is appropriate for you. The Body Balanced Kit is available in our office where you can purchase it with a card or use some of your points to receive a discount.
